Information for speakers

All speakers are required to register for the congress and pay the respective fee.

Oral communications in thematic panels should not exceed 20 minutes in order to stay on schedule and facilitate the switching of rooms for participants. All papers will be followed by 10 minutes of discussion (there will be no discussion time for speakers of the database panel for which discussion is postponed to the database forum).

The plenary speeches on Tuesday and Thursday should last no more than 30 minutes. They will be followed by 15 minutes of discussion.

Please note that the organisers and chairs will be very strict with timings, considering the busy programme of the conference.

Accepted languages are English, French, German, Italian and Spanish. Please bear in mind that the audience will have problems following you, when you are speaking too fast and do not pay attention to pronunciation. It is therefore essential that you speak as clearly as possible at a moderate speed.

If you have fact sheets, please arrange the copies yourselves and hand them to our staff before the beginning of your panel. We estimate the average number of participants in each thematic panel at around 100 persons. You may use at your own expense the copy machine at the Department of Ancient History, Papyrology and Epigraphy (open Monday to Friday 9am-6pm, please turn to the information desk there to obtain a copy card) or go to a copy shop nearby (Universitätsstraße 8, Monday to Friday 8.30am to 6pm).

All lecture rooms are equipped with a laptop (Windows PC) and a projector, which means it will be enough to have your PowerPoint presentation (Keynote is not supported) on a USB memory device. Please turn to our staff at least 15 minutes before the start of your panel to transfer the file to the laptop. To avoid losing time with problems of document format incompatibilities, please make sure that you have saved your presentation also as PDF.
For any eventuality, uploading your presentation to an online storage platform such as OneDrive, Google, Dropbox, iCloud etc. is recommended.

Substantial contributions to the Congress will be published in the proceedings after a peer review process. More information will follow at a later date.

Information for poster presenters

The posters will be displayed in the arcaded courtyard of the main building of the University of Vienna throughout the entire congress. There will not be a designated poster session as such but poster presenters are kindly requested to be around their posters during the coffee breaks on Tuesday and Thursday morning to answer questions and provide information on their respective projects to interested colleagues.

At the end of the congress you can take your poster home with you. Poster tubes will be provided by our main sponsor Holzhausen. If you are not able to attend the congress, please ask a colleague to take the poster home for you.
